Di Donna Galleries will present a vibrant selection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper that highlights the tactile and graphic range of 20th-century artists, including:
An exquisite and whimsically oversized gilt apple by Claude Lalanne, titled Pomme de Londres (2007; cast 2013), from a limited sculptural series she named after the cities of London and New York.
Constellation with Bottles (1943), a rare example from Alexander Calder’s inventive “Constellation” group of small wood sculptures that he made during World War II, which reveal his ties to Surrealist biomorphism and his adaptability to new materials.
A masterful drawing by Salvador Dalí of “Leda Atomica” (1947), an interpretation of a classical theme in the age of modern warfare that he made in preparation for a famous oil now at the Dalí Museum in Figueres, Spain.
Tom Wesselman’s Seascape #2 (1965), a grand painting celebrating the female body through the tantalizing depiction of a raised foot against an expanse of azure sky.
Femme à la rose (1936), a painting by Paul Delvaux that demonstrates the Belgian artist’s skill in rendering dreamlike scenes involving mysterious narratives and ambiguous spatial environments.
The gallery will present other significant works by these artists as well as by Alexander Archipenko, Victor Brauner, Max Ernst, Emil Filla, Philip Guston, Auguste Herbin, Wassily Kandinsky, Richard Lindner, Matta, Joan Miró, Henry Moore, Wolfgang Paalen, and Antoni Tápies.
